After a 2 year absence, 2014 saw the return of the Caversham AFC Primary Schools Football Tournament, which was held at St Anne's primary school on Thursday 12th June.

This was the tenth running of this event, and as if to celebrate the fact, the sun came out, and all the teams played their part in fun, and very entertaining day.

6 schools took part this year (Caversham Primary, EP Collier, Micklands, St Anne's, St Martin's, & Thameside), and with 3 of the previous winners unable to attend, there was a greater chance for a new name to be join the list of previous winners.

Each team will have their own tales to tell; whether it is one of great goals, superb saves, last gasp winners or simple one of steady improvement as the tournament progressed – they all added up to a fantastic afternoon of football.

As it transpired we had 2 unbeaten teams on the day (St Anne's and St Martin's), and going in to the last match the trophy was still up for grabs. The players did not know it, but a win for St Martin's and the trophy was theirs. However, a draw would see them slip into second behind St Anne's on goal difference.

EP Collier stood in their way, and as they had earlier held St Anne's to a 1-1 draw, they played a major part in the outcome of the overall competition. Unfortunately (for them) despite some hard work and persistence they were not able to repeat their early result and St Martin's ran out 3-0 winners.

So the winners of the Caversham AFC Shield 2014 were St Martin's. Runners up were St Anne's. The Fair Play Award went to EP Collier.

Once again a big “Thank you”, goes out to St Annes for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities, but most of all congratulations to all the players who took part, as it was you that made this such a fantastic event.
